Nail Salon FAQ

The Nail Edition is a nail salon in Fond du Lac, founded by Kelly Wondra, its lead nail tech and the first Gel-X provider in Fond du Lac. Guests ask good questions before they sit down, and answering them is part of how we work.

This page covers the basics: whether nails really need to breathe, why we skip acrylic, hard gel and dip, how we keep things clean, what a first visit looks like, booking, referrals and gift certificates.

Your questions

Ask Kelly

Questions guests ask Kelly, answered in her words.

Do nails need to breathe?

No, fingernails don't need to breathe, and it's one of the questions I hear most at The Nail Edition. Your nails aren't living tissue, so they don't take in air. What they need is gentle prep, gentle removal and attention at every visit. That's why I check the health of your natural nails before anything goes on them.

If your nails feel thin or weak, tell me at your appointment. I’ll take a look first, and we’ll decide together what goes on them. Curious how Gel-X works? Read about Gel-X at The Nail Edition.

Why don't you offer acrylic, hard gel or dip?

The Nail Edition doesn't offer acrylic, hard gel or dip because the health of your natural nails comes first here. I work with Gel-X and builder gel, which is a soft gel, because both soak off with acetone. If your natural nail isn't healthy, nothing's going to stay, so I choose products that come off gently.

Want extra strength at your natural length? Builder gel comes with manicures. For length or a new shape, see Gel-X, or browse the full services menu.

How do you keep things clean and safe?

At The Nail Edition, cleaning is built into every service, from the first file to the last coat. I never cut live tissue, and every manicure ends with a hand wash. You should be able to relax in the chair without wondering about the tools. Ask me anything about how I work.

Cuticles are pushed back, and only dead cuticle is clipped. I never cut into live tissue. Calluses are how your body protects your feet, so in a pedicure I reduce them and never remove them completely.

What should I expect at my first visit?

Your first visit at The Nail Edition starts with a conversation and a close look at your natural nails before anything goes on them. We'll talk through shape, length and color. For a first Gel-X set, book the new-guest appointment. It's 150 minutes and starts at $90, so we have time to fit every tip carefully.

Do I have to commit to regular appointments?

No, booking at The Nail Edition doesn't commit you to regular appointments. Come in once for a manicure or pedicure and see how it feels. Some guests book ahead on a regular cycle, and others come in for a single event.

Want an hour to put your feet up first? Take a look at the pedicure menu.

How do I book an appointment?

Booking an appointment at The Nail Edition takes a minute. Book online with the Book Now button, or call or text the salon. New to Gel-X? Choose the first-time Gel-X appointment so we have 150 minutes. Share any nail art ideas when you book.

Ready when you are: book your appointment online.

Do you offer gift certificates?

Yes, The Nail Edition offers gift certificates. They make a nice gift for a birthday, a holiday or a friend who could use an hour in the chair. You can buy one in person at the Beauty Republic Salon in downtown Fond du Lac. If you have questions before you buy one, call or text the salon, and I'll help you pick the right one.

Or buy online through Beauty Republic

See the details on the gift certificates page.
